At last the breath of spring imbues my world
With softly scented air and vibrant greens,
And drifting maple wings that gently twirled,
Their twirling stopped when damped ground intervenes.

My back against the tree, I feel the sun,
Its lulling warmth makes drowsy eyelids close.
And as I drift into oblivion,
I sense a peace that only spring bestows.

But dreams that come when outdoor air surrounds,
Are somehow soothing to a troubled soul.
At winter’s end when springtime’s hope abounds,
A spirit, crushed, is magic’ly made whole.

A springtime slumber ‘neath a leafy tree,
Engulfed in peace that I could not forsee.

MUMBAI HAS BEEN UNDER TERROR ATTACK

FOR THE LAST 39 HOURS

ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT THIS THIS RUTHLESS,

UNHUMAN ACT OK TERROR STARTED

AND YET THE SAGA CONTINUES.

OVER THE LAST THREE DAYS

132 PEOPLE HAVE DIED AND AROUND 170 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED.

THIS INCIDENT HAS SHACKEN THE PEACE LOVING MUMBAIKARS.

MUMBAI'S MOST IMPORTANT HERITAGE BUILDING,

THE TAJ MAHAL HOTEL,

A 105 YEAR OLD BUILDING HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME AND CONTINUES TO DO SO EVEN AFTER A NUMBER OF EXPLOSIONS IN SIDE THE HERITAGE BUILDING.

TWO OTHER LOCATIONS WHERE A HOSTAGE SITUATION HAS DEVELOPED ARE

THE OBEROI TRIDENT HOTEL & THE JEW NARIMAN HOUSE.

THE CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI TERMINUS(CST), WHICH IS A

BEUTIFUL VICTORIAN STRUCTURE, THE METRO CINEMA

& THE CAMA HOSPITAL HAVE BEEN ATTACKED.

THE PEACE CLUB TODAY REQUESTS ALL MUMBAIKARS

TO HELP IN THIS SITUATION,

HOWEVER POSSIBLE(DONATING BLOOD).

WE REQUEST EVERYBODY TO START QUESTIONING

AND TO BE MORE CAUTIOUS ABOUT THEIR OWN SECURITY.

SO THAT SUCH A SITUATION NEVER DEVELOPS AGAIN.

The Peace Club had held a Peace Exhibition in the month of May.

It was held on the 11th and 12th of may at the Acres Lifestyle Club , in Chembur, Mumbai.

The exhibition was held to motivate people to encourage peace and to join the club.

We sold hand made jelly candles, mothers day cards, hand made articles , etc....

The exhibition was a success as we got good response and collected a good amount of money for funding the events held by the club.

This event fulfilled its purpose of making a place for peace in every indivisuals mind.

We hope to see you at our next event.

WE AS INDIANS SHOULD BE PROUD THAT WE ARE THE LARGEST DEMOCRACY IN THE WORLD.

A Live war interview- 1971

This is an inter view of captain gopalakrishnan who fought for india in the war of 1971. he told our correspondent the events that took place in an live interview.
his now 68 and is still going strong. we wish this natioinal fighter but peace lover a long life.

Our correspondent (o.c) : So what branch of the Indian defense were you in? Captain Gopalakrishnan (c.g): I was a commander in the INS Vikrant and now I am a Captain of a merchant ship of ONGC. I was also responsible for the warplanes in the ship, I even had to go spying in them! ( laughs) our correspondent : Wasn’t it a scary situation? captain gopalkrishanan: Scary is not the word. Though I love my job, I hate the killing part. Thankfully, I was not in the combat war, I was in the navy and we do not kill, we capture. Our correspondent: So what spying did you have to do? Captain Gopalkrishanan : Since I am a naval officer, we had to go by ship. The ship had to get near the Pakistani coastline but we had to remain in Indian waters. The spying warplanes seated only two including the pilot, so only important naval officers were chosen for the task.. We used to go by night for quick round over Pakistan and before dawn we had to get back to the Indian side of the L.O.C. We had no staying arrangements as the L.O.C is the most well guarded among other war areas. The password to enter India used to change every hour and anyone not knowing it used to be shot. Every five hours the pilot and I used to be awake alternatively and find out the passwords soon. No one around knew who was Indian and who was Pakistani. Anyone with the permission from the Naval Aviation or Aviation Control to land was allowed, but they too were spied on as they could be enemies in disguise. We had to sleep under the airplane covered in camouflage blankets and go spying again at night. It was a panicky situation, but as long as we did not have to use our ammunition, it was fun! Our correspondent : Which war was this? Captain Gopalakrishnan: This was the war against Pakistan in 1971. Our correspondent: Have you faced any other ‘ Butterflies in the stomach’ situation? Captain Gopalakrishnan: Yes, once. Apart from the 1971 war I was always on ship. I learned to fly only for the 1971 war where I was assigned to fly and spy. Once when I was in my early days on ship, I was just a plain naval officer and not a commander naval officer. We had to fight pirates in the Indian Ocean . The pirates were Indian of course, but valiant fighters. It was a butterflies in the stomach situation at start, but it turned to a funny end because the first person I came face to face was the captain pirate. I didn’t know it was the captain and he could not see me as his back was faced to me. His pistol and sword was hanging from his belt behind and I grabbed it, and I went in front of him. After seeing me, he put his hand behind to remove the pistol and lo! It was not there! I started laughing and I was about to be smacked in the face by him, but my Captain snatched the sword from my hand and called one of the junior sailors to tie him up and my captain called me to a corner and said, “ Venu….what are you going to do with this sword. It is useless. Give it to me.” I had to give it up because politics used to run everywhere then. He took it and then later I found out that he claimed that it was he that took out the sword from the pirate captain in a difficult one-man combat! At first, I was totally pissed off thinking that I could have got a great boost off to my career. But I am happy, as I got more than I wished for. Our correspondent: Are you a lover of peace or war? Captain Gopalakrishnan: Peace, anyday. Our work was to capture the wrongdoers and people were are assigned to catch, and the judges used to sentence them to be shot or sent to jail. We are not responsible for the people who were hanged, etc. but we feel sad for those people, though wrongdoers, they were doing it for a family just like ours, back home.. CAN THERE BE PEACE IN THE FUTURE !

We at the peace club are trying our best to make peace in this world.

But can we have peace without environmental peace.

The world today is moving rapidly towards danger and destruction ,

a world full of problems is visible to me if things go on like this.

Then how will we have world peace.

Countries will be fighting for mineral power,

clean space, and clean food.

Problems of world peace will be even more evident,

And solving them will be even more complex.

So lets pledge today to encourage world peace ,

By encouraging environmental peace.

So keep in touch with The Peace Club,

To participate in its events.

So become a member,

To be posted about our world wide events.

Peace, in the past, was one of the pillars of society- an ideology that made people feel secure, a concept on which the foundations of the world were built. It meant that a poor farmer whose crops had failed could sleep soundly at night, that a nursing woman could soothe her baby without having to even raising her voice.
But today, peace seems to have become a wonder- indeed, if someone refrains from violence, he has done a great deed. It is hard to believe that the same country that produced the Mahatma, also produced a Dawood. We humans have conquered the world, stepped on the moon, done the greatest things imaginable- but we have not conquered the animal within ourselves. We have grown immune to violence, we have given up hope of humanity.
Yesterday morning, when news of suicide bombing in Iraq resonated in all the radio stations, all my friend did was switch off the radio. For us, the modern and evolved people of the 21st century, violence and hatred has become commonplace and (though we do not admit it) even a little boring. My grandparents are shocked to see people dying in encounters and terrorist activities, but all I can feel is that this keeps happening everyday, and it's nothing new.
This has to change. And it can only happen if we all work together to make a world a better place for our successors.

FOCUS ON PEACE
To me peace means brotherhood. Peace means interrelationship and peace means to live happily. Nowadays it is very difficult to find it. But I experienced it when I was working for this peace project. We were all of different religions, cultures and different opinions. But we worked together with a lot of understanding and then I realized that if we children can work together even though we are from different religions then why can’t the world. This peace movement is an excellent step towards bringing peace and harmony to the country first and then the world at large. Now, let me tell you something about what we did to promote peace in our school first. Our library teacher Meena ma’am gave us great support and technical help by arranging for a Peace Board and a Peace Corner for us. Our first peace assignment was on Mahatma Gandhi. We visited the house of M.K.Gandhi in Bombay, ‘Mani Bhavan’ to know more about him. We clicked many pictures and studied his ideals. I could fell the presence of the Mahatma in the house. Mani Bhavan is so silent and peaceful it gives you a sense of inner tranquility. After visiting Mani Bhavan we came back to school. We started are work by putting are ideas together on the Peace Board. Then we created a collage on M.K.Gandhi’s life and wrote down his sayings. His sayings are so selfless and for the good of humanity that you feel like practicing them. After all the work was completed and the decoration was done the final day came when the Consul General of the United States of America came to visit are school. We asked him to inaugurate our Peace Corner and explained to him what we had done. He was impressed by our work. Then we proceeded towards the hall were an entertainment programme emphasizing Peace was held for the Consul General. He was honoured by our school and the ‘Lions Clubs International’. Then he spoke to us and enlightened us about Peace and about the importance of Dayton and its Peace Museum. His speech will always be remembered by us. It was an excellent day filled with peace, harmony and hope for the future.

Peace !!

peace is hope!

peace is me!

The world is my family,
its citizens, my brothers and sisters,
we all live in a joint family,
in a big house called the earth.

But i don't know why;
my sisters and brothers are fighting,
i'm mourning everyday,
cause my family is perishing.

My home is filled with walls,
and i don't know,
how many more will be built,
but i know, soon, the system of joint family,
will be depleated.

today i pray to my family,
to forget all the disputes,
to break all the walls,
and make, my joint family re-exist.
